Congratulations! You win a new roof.

I wrote last week about finding a portion of our roof caved in over the garage.  The insurance adjuster finally made it out yesterday.  His first comment to Brad was that the problem most likely would not be covered by insurance, but he had to go up on the roof to really see what was happening.

By the time he left, he had totaled out not only the roof but also the guttering.  It seems both things have been completely damaged by hail.  We weren’t completely surprised by this news; several houses in our neighborhood have had roof replacements in the past couple of years.

So the adjuster gave us a check for the guttering and told us he’d contact Wichita Roofing to get someone out for an estimate.  The adjuster left about noon; the rep from Wichita Roofing was on the roof by 5:00 the same day.  Talk about service!  He said that they can completely finish the project in one day, and they can get to it as soon as a week from now.

One of the guttering guys that Brad called for a quote also made it out today to take a look around.  We are waiting to do the guttering until after the roof is finished, obviously, since we don’t want to take the chance of messing up new guttering when the roof gets done.  However, we thought we’d go ahead and get the quotes going.

While I’m not excited about forking out money for the insurance deductible, a new roof will be a good selling point for the house when we get to that point in a couple of years.  Just one more major renovation project around the Ragland house!
