Ashley at 1

Ashley turned 1 on May 12.

This is her:

I mean, seriously.  Look at that face.  Is it surprising that she has me wrapped around her finger?

Ashley’s a sweetheart.  When Alissa cries, Ashley sometimes toddles over to Alissa and gives her a kiss.  (Other times, Alissa’s crying makes Ashley laugh.  Which is also amusing.)  She’s walking everywhere, and she talks constantly, although it’s a language all her own.  I have a feeling in six months I’m not going to be able to get a word in edgewise in my house, with three motormouths around.

If you ask her a question, she’ll shake her head yes or no, usually with the right answer.  “Ashley, are you cute?”  Head shake yes.  “Ashley, do you love your mommy?”  Yes again.  “Ashley, will you please stop hitting your sister?”  Okay, so she shook her head no on this one.  Which I’m not entirely convinced is the wrong answer; she has some paybacks due her for the times Alissa has attempted to body slam her to the ground.

This is the time I really start to enjoy kids.  Sure, they’re cute as babies, but that second year is when they get so many cool new skills.  And they can start to tell me what’s wrong.  And we don’t have to do formula anymore, and she can eat most of what we eat.  Sure, we’re still working on getting her to sleep through the night, but it’s getting better.  Here’s to a fantastic second year!
