It’s the little things.

Alissa has discovered a new favorite thing.

What is it, you ask?

Behold, the lowly Lunchable:

Yes, my-daughter-the-pickiest-eater-on-the-planet has discovered a love for Lunchables.  The girls are going to Kids Day Out this summer, and they must take a lunch with them.  The problem – for me, anyway – is figuring out what to send.  No PB&J, ’cause nut products aren’t allowed.  I’d send a little wrap thing, but Alissa is anti-tortilla.  They both love hot dogs and mac n’ cheese, but those really aren’t “sack lunch” kind of items.

Both girls like ham, however, and they’d eat cheese for every meal if I’d let them.  So when I found Lunchables on sale at Dillons and paired them with a coupon, I had a cheap option for lunches.  Add some fruit, send a drink, and – voila! – it’s a no-mess, no-fuss option.

Alissa acts as if she has discovered the ultimate in fine dining.  The night before her first Kids Day Out, she carried the Lunchable package around for more than an hour, staring at it and proclaiming, “This is going to be SUCH a YUMMY lunch!”  I finally made her put it back in the fridge before it got too warm and started going bad.

After we picked up a couple more at the store for Kids Day Out this week, she immediately asked, begged, and finally pleaded to have one for dinner.  (And you know what?  I let her.  Because we were having leftovers anyway.)

“Look, Mommy!” she says as she stuffs her face full of cracker.  “You can make a SANDWICH with the CRACKERS and the HAM!!!”  This, of course, is said in a tone that makes you think that no one in the history of the world has ever thought of this magical food combination and she has invented a new gourmet treat.

It must be nice to be a kid.  And be excited over such simple little things.
